MTA

MTA-app.png

I was tired of waiting for the MTA to come up with a solution for lack of card replenishment, so I decided to create a design concept that would be for a new mobile device scanning and fare payment system which may eventually phase out the use of MetroCards for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York City. It would require new turnstile scanners so that riders can "swipe" with their phones.

THE PROBLEM

Currently, users cannot refill MetroCards remotely.  There is a need to see your balance and be able to refill your MetroCard at any given moment.  There is also a need to solve very common problems such as losing a MetroCard or managing multiple, different kind of MetroCards.

PERSONAS

To gain a deeper understanding of the target audience, 5-6 personas were created.  These personas helped to better address concerns and distinguish between what is necessary or unnecessary.

SKETCHES AND MINDMAP

Sketching really helps to gather ideas and visualize them for the first time.  The mindmap is used for brainstorming ideas that may still have not made themselves present after persona creation.

LOW FIDELITY USERFLOWS

Before beginning visual designs, I put together a lo-fi userflow to better visualize the entire experience and to make sure the final product is based on the flow to meet the needs of the users.

HIGH FIDELITY USERFLOWS

Now that I had an idea of what paths users would need to take, I started to work on making those paths as easy as possible.
